Movember - Prostate & Testicular Cancer awareness so give generously
I wouldn’t normally blog non tech related stuff on my blog but I decided this year I’d get involved with the Movember campaign to raise funds and awareness of Testicular & Prostate Cancer. I was going to do it last year but for one reason or another didn’t.
Yup, serious business is cancer so I’m doing my bit!. I’ve done the usual stuff over the years, the parachute jump (did that 2 years ago), runs, walks, silences, swims (doing one in the summer hopefully in Salford (British Gas sponsored)) and pretty much the normal sort of stuff but figured as this is pretty effortless and ultimately going to make me look extremely silly (wouldn’t have it any other way) I’ll have a go!. It’s serious business and a worthy cause and I’ve nothing better to do than look dafter than usual for the short time of 30 days.
If you want to contribute you can here on my page and and I’d be greatly appreciative!. More information is available here also, as to what it’s all about and how it originated etc. I’d also like to know your thoughts on how I should style the handsome beast I’ll be sporting in 30 days!!. I’m also really interested in opinions and experiences, so please feel free to leave those below.

AndroidLike many people with an Android phone, in my case the older non HD HTC Desire, we subscribed to the maker as it’s without a doubt a good product (so much so Google bought it). It’s an alternative to the usual iPhone, it’s Open Source, cheaper and very soon will be equally, if not more popular than the iPhone. Currently, Android market has in excess of 300,000 apps which is increasing all the time. When I switched I liked the open source aspect of the OS. Its ability to sync my other Google accounts fairly dynamically in addition was a great bonus. I also liked the fact it’s customiseable in that the dev community can contribute to it’s ongoing overall development through apps with an open SDK (something apple doesn’t have which is still being improved on). Promises of access to the Bootloader should be coming soon. And of course, Android Market is far more user friendly than that horrid, stand alone app iTunes which requires a download.

My JavaScript certificationWell, I finally got around to sitting my JavaScript Specialist Certification last month, with Taitec testers in Manchester and here’s the proof!. I’d done quite a bit of work and sweating for the exam (bearing in mind all the way, the strict retest policy my course has within it’s conditions) and thankfully, the work paid off. Otherwise, I’d have been undoubtedly hit with retest fees. I’m now learning Perl programming (One of the 3 P’s, Python, Perl & PHP), which is interesting me. continue reading…

Is online shopping more convenient?

We all know the benefits of online shopping. Most of use this method time after time. Today, it’s secure and can be very safe thanks to varying technologies and systems the internet employs including HTTPS (explained better later) and various levels of encryption during payment which protects us and makes the whole process pretty effortless. There isn’t anything really continue reading…

Water and iPhone don't mixA few weeks ago I commented on Twitter and Facebook about how I was unfortunate enough to have my iPhone fully submerged in a swimming pool – long story but I was thrown in at a party during drunken antics!. I also read a similiar post of someone else as unfortunate. As a result, I thought the phone was lost. It was saturated after all and refused initially to switch on at all (I know I shouldn’t have attempted that straightaway) but hey you live and learn. continue reading…

IOS4It comes as no suprise Apple have finally updated the iPhone software to iOS4.2 as rumoured for their range but what is suprising, is the lack of improvements overall and peoples response to it. It’s been quite negative to say the least and the majority of consumers, from reading blogs and tweets, are feeling short changed and disappointed!. Android on the other hand, appears to be coming on leaps and bounds (even incorporating Flash support early on which I know is an ongoing issue with Apple), so it’s in Apple’s interests you’d think to develop (and keep users happy) at the same speed and maintain an argueable amount of competition for Android in this competitive market. continue reading…

voCal - voice reminder software for the iPhoneIt’s no news I like to blog iPhone apps. I use some daily and as I’ve said in previous posts, I like some moreso than others, especially the useful ones and this is one good example!. I’ll use it anyway. It’s been thought up I would say to compete with the Android market. As to my knowledge, thus far, the iPhone doesn’t have some of the voice capability apps that Android does, suprisingly (Google voice for example). They’re coming though. Well, this is a start and a good one too!. Ok, it’s only a simple personal voice reminder app but I think more apps like this are to come and best of all, this one is free. And we like freebies and very little in life is after all. voCal lite is available at iTunes, available to download here..

What’s New in Version 2.32

There is a bug fix, as some users handsets locked up when pressing the listen button. I’ve used it a few times though and it’s good overall and I’ve had no problems. Simples!.

The only requirement is you must be running ISO 4.1 software on your iphone.
